As a woman in her 50’s, and a grandmother, people find it hard to believe my age. I’m a social butterfly, and every now and then, you can find me out and about socialising until the wee hours of the morning. Aging is not something I do well. For me personally, mindset has a lot to do with it. Changing your mindset is lot easier said than done. How do you change your mindset so you have a healthier approach to aging? Every time I looked in the mirror, I could see the ravages of time on my face. This didn’t help my mindset. Cosmetic enhancements became the catalyst I needed. When I saw myself more youthful, it naturally gave me a boost, which started to shift my somber mood on aging. That radiated through my interactions with people, my perspective of the world and gave me the motivation to embark on a healthy diet and exercise regime.
Take a look at my before (left) photo below. That photo was taken in 2009. I wasn’t having a great time in my life and it was showing up all over my face. I was aging rapidly. Stress, working long hours, poor diet and health was weighing heavily on all aspects of my life. I was hardly feeling good about myself.
Fast forward to now, and I have more energy and look younger than I did 8 years ago. I started seeing age as something to look forward to. I have more confidence, wisdom and empowerment than ever before. As women in our 50’s, I strongly feel we should be embracing age. I’m not ready to crawl under a rock just yet. Frankly, I don’t think I’ll ever be. I think women in their later years have a lot to share and offer each other and collectively. It’s tough. Physical appearance plays a huge part in our society.

What is it for: The eight point facelift was developed by Brazilian plastic surgeon, Mauricio De Maio, which creates a facial lift without surgery. It involves replacing volume using dermal fillers, to lift the skin back up to where it was when we were younger.
How it works: Dermal fillers are placed in the upper face first. This creates a lifting effect meaning less filler is required in the lower face. The eight points are: upper cheek, mid cheek, tear troughs, nasalobial folds, corners of the mouth, jowls, jawline and hollow temples. Results can last 12 – 18 months. Read More
