What can you treat with dermal fillers?

Fillers are sometimes used to replace volume to the face where fat loss, as a result of disease, has caused the cheeks to sink in, or collapse. Dermal fillers can also be used to fill in acne scars and pockmarks, reshape or re-contour facial features, add volume to cheeks and lips, and reshape the nose or jawline

What are dermal fillers made of?

There are a lot of fillers available with a wide range of composition, longevity and viscosity. The filler or fillers chosen for your treatments will depend on your individual needs. Fillers might be used along with wrinkle injections for an even better result.

Some fillers are more permanent and may be used to literally reshape your nose and jaw line to create a more balanced shape to your face.

The majority of modern day fillers are made using a humectant that is found in the body throughout the epithelial, connective and neural tissues and especially in the skin. These fillers are bio-degradable and vary as far as composition, longevity and viscosity.

The humectant most commonly used in dermal fillers is able to attract as much as 1,000 times its own weight in water. It is one of the main agents used in maintaining proper hydration that results in a youthful look. It a is also a part of tissue repair.

How do dermal fillers work and what do they treat?

For filling superficial lines and less severe facial wrinkles and for treating people with delicate skin, you need fillers with light textures. Finer fillers may also be injected in greater volume into problem areas or into middle or deep skin for contouring that involves large areas of the face, including, lips, cheeks and chin.

Treatments may be given for about 6 to 12 months, depending on how much is needed to get the result you want.

If you want a stronger result that lasts longer, you may decide to go for medium volume dermal fillers. These fillers are used for deeper injection and will do more to restore volume in areas such as your cheeks, hollowed eyes, nasolabial folds, plus drooping at corners of your mouth. These more heavy duty fillers are used also to correct deep facial wrinkles and folds, as well as lip augmentation. Results usually last for about 6-12 months. This depends on the individual. The effects last longer for some people than others.

Heavier duty, longer lasting fillers may be used to add volume back to large areas like the cheeks and middle of the face, fill out depressions of the face, along with any deep contours and hollows. You can probably expect results to last a year or more. These fillers don’t migrate away from the site of the injection.
